Барбадос / Barbados

Sprinter Obadele THOMPSON was the first man to win an Olympic medal wearing Barbados colours when he took 100m bronze at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The first Bajan to win an Olympic medal, however, was Jim WEDDERBURN, who grabbed a bronze medal in the men's 4x400m relay at the Rome 1960 Olympic Games when athletes from Barbados competed as part of the West Indies Federation.

Barbados first appeared in their own right at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.

In 2008, Andrew HINDS competed in the men's 100m at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. His father Hadley was a 200m runner in the first Barbados Olympic team in 1968.
