Боливия / Bolivia

At their first Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, Bolivia were represented by a single competitor, swimmer Alberto CONRAD. Although they sent one participant to the Winter Olympic Games in 1956 at Cortina D'Ampezzo in Italy, they did not appear again until the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.

Since then, Bolivians have regularly competed in athletics, canoeing, equestrian and shooting.

Canoeist Fernan INCHAUSTE was their lone representative in 1964 in the men's kayak singles 1000m. He competed in the same event in 1968, but made his third Olympic appearance in shooting (small bore prone rifle) at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.

In 1984, Nelly CHAVEZ became Bolivia's first female Olympian when she took part in the first women's marathon.

Juan CAMACHO completed three consecutive men's marathons from 1984 to 1992.

Giovanna IRUSTA competed in the women's 10km walk at three Olympic Games from 1996 to 2004.

Swimmer Katerine MORENO made her Olympic debut aged 14 in Seoul in 1988 and became the first Bolivian to compete at four Olympic Games when she appeared in the 50m freestyle at Beijing 2008. No Bolivian has yet won an Olympic medal.
