Cambodia were first represented in in 1956. Two showjumping riders and their horses took part in the equestrian events held in Stockholm.

A team of 13, Cambodia's largest to date competed in boxing, cycling and sailing at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.

Sprinter Meas KHENG was their first female Olympian when she competed in the 100m and 200m at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.

Cambodians did not take part in the Olympic Games again until the Centennial Games in Atlanta in 1996 when Reaksmay HEM and her brother Lumphat both took part in swimming events.

TO Rithya completed successive men's marathons in 1996 and 2000.

Sprinter Tit Linda SOU celebrated her 15th birthday on the opening day of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. She also represented her country in Beijing in 2008 aged 18.

At 22, men's marathoner Bunting HEM was the oldest member of Cambodia's team of four in Beijing.
