The first women to take part in the Olympic Games formed part of their handball team at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.
Their presence boosted the team to 23 members, the largest sent to an Olympics.
Congo sent a team of five to Beijing, including swimmer Rony BAKALE. He had also competed at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games alongside his sister Monika.
