Ecuador were represented by a team of three athletes at the Paris 1924 Olympic Games but did not appear again until the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games.
Their team of 15 included 15-year-old swimmer Tamara OREJUELA, who became their first female Olympian at those Games. Ecuador have attended every Olympiad since.
Their medals have both come in race walking. Jefferson PEREZ is Ecuador's most successful Olympic competitor. He won the 20km walk at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and took silver in the same event at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
He has competed at five successive Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008. Swimmer Jorge Delgado PANCHAMA was fourth in the men's 200m butterfly at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games, their best finish in any other sport.
Ecuador sent a team of 25 to Beijing 2008, their largest to date.
