Экваториальная Гвинея / Equatorial Guinea

Eric MOUSSAMBANI carried his country's flag at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games but hit the headlines for his swim in the qualifying heats of the men's 100m freestyle.

His time of 1 minute 52.72 seconds was the slowest in Olympic Games history. He also had to swim the race on his own after two fellow competitors had been disqualified for false starts. He became known as "Eric the Eel".

The country was first represented at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games where the team of four included 16-year-old sprinter Gustavo ENVELA. He took part in four successive Olympic Games from 1984–96. Equatorial Guinea sent a team of three to the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
