Senegal were first represented by a 12-man team at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games and competed exclusively in athletics.
Their only medal to date has come from Amadou DIA BA. He took silver in the men's 400m hurdles at the 1988 Games in Seoul. DIA BA competed in three Olympic Games.
Amadou GAKOU finished fourth in the men's 400m at the Mexico City 1968 Games. He also took part in the Olympic Games in 1964 and 1972.
Triple jumper Mansour Mamadou DIA also competed in three Olympic Games. He followed an eighth-place finish in 1968 with sixth at the Munich 1972 Games. Senegal sent a team of 15 to the 2008 Games in Beijing in seven sports.
At Rome 1960, Senegal-born Adoulaye SEYE took bronze in the men's 200m, representing France.
